As I sit here enjoying my Thursday with nothing going on tomorrow, I am sifting through my iPod and have found a Green Day portion. Suddenly, the idea for a script came up.
I think it is contributed from some “Back to the Future” last night, but my idea is that this band is at a try out for some concert and they are dressed as an old 50’s band and the lead singer has this swagger like Buddy Holly in what I am picturing a purple suit.
I haven’t figured out what song, but my gag was they would play some modern punk song in a 1950’s R&B/rock and roll style and they’re all into it. The singer looks like Buddy Holly, acts like David Byrne (Talking Heads) when he performs.
I know, this is pretty much an elaborate excuse to pay tribute to one of my favorite bands, The Hives (despite no blatant reference), but I find the idea funny, especially if they perform something like Green Day’s “Know Your Enemy” to 1950’s style.
And then, they end in an “American Idol” type beat down where the singer dukes it out with the judge.
"Well, I must say that your song choice was a little bogus. I mean, do you think we’re really going to pick you just because you rebel against the system. Come on. This is a school dance, not a protest. And also, what’s with that purple suit? Who do you think you are, Prince? I’m sorry, sir… you’re just too much of a confused mess. Come back to us when you work yourself out."
That isn’t actual dialogue (yeah, I know it sounded like cardboard), but the general outline I want to achieve. I for some reason have become attracted to oddball characters (thanks, “Ghost World”). I would love to make a short like this.
I would love to either use Green Day or anything off of the first Transplants record, because the incorporation is right, and there’s some subtle humor in the song choices.
