Nowadays, I am a burnout on music. As I just showed, I tore apart Lady GaGa as a person, yet called her music mediocre trash.
However, of all the music that I’ve listened to (with newly exceptional Book of Mormon soundtrack), none has stuck that much… except for the brilliant work of Tom Waits on the album “Rain Dogs.”
I haven’t listened to the album through and through more than once, but damn, if I don’t put some of the music on. I’ve been a very loose, casual fan of Waits for years, but never owned an album. I’m sure that will change to albums real quick, because let me just say… thanks Spin Magazine for convincing me to finally get this.
So brilliant, right off the bat you had “Singapore,” which is awesome. It goes on, and I laugh, I cry, and had a great time. I need more Tom Waits. It’s been awhile since I have said that about an artist.
Okay, do know I also liked the Cure album, but I love Waits’ raw energy more. It’s probably not going to make my elitist favorite albums (which I don’t even remember anymore), but I will be blasting these songs next to “Spooky Mormon Hell Dream.”
