Last week I was reading IGN’s Rage review, which received an 8.5 from Charles Onyett, when I noticed the comments at the bottom of the review. Many of the comments were harassing IGN for their score stating that it should have received a 9 yet they had not played it. Furthermore, many were also confused on whether they should buy it or not. Seriously? Underneath the 8.5 is the word “Great.” Why would you not want to play a game that is great? Sure, cost is certainly a factor with many more AAA titles still to be released, but the issue is deeper here; most people just look at the score and do not read the review.

Right Man for the Jobs

This past week, Steve Jobs passed away. He is known as the godfather of Apple. He was the face of their product up until he stepped down amid his bouts with cancer. When that cancer took his life, he was hailed as a visionary. Many claimed he changed how we as consumers view computers and computer projects. Well, I think we should stop short before we deify him.I wrote this!
The Nerd’s Eye View crew reviews 50/50, and one of them just wasn’t impressed. Andrew and Matt go over the news in video games, including some Arkham City talk. Thom and Andrew delve into Community Fantasy League discussion. The CBYHS theme for the week is “Body Part/Anatomy in the title” and it sure is a head-scratcher. The three trailers for Trailer Trash are John Dies at the End (2012), The 3 R’s (Oct 20), and Being Elmo: A Puppeteers Journey (N/A). And at the end are three more entries for Guess the Ending. In Defense of Seth Rogen

This past weekend, I saw 50/50. For a full review, check out Thursday’s show, episode 30. However, to briefly state my opinion, this felt tailored to me. I love movies about characters, preferably in a comedic state. Being a fan of James L. Brooks’ earlier films, I can see a lot of the influence on director Jonathan Levine’s work. I won’t waste your time with the reasoning why Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be one of the greatest young actors currently working (does Brick or(500) Days of Summer not prove it?). I won’t waste your time discussing Levine’s other movie the Wackness (featuring the immortal line “I just look at the dopeness. But you, it’s like you just look at the wackness, ya know?”).
Thom watches Planet of the Apes(the real story is how) and continues with Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop. Andrew finds two things wrong with the title of Naked Lunch, wonders if Marge is a better lead to A Streetcar Named Desire and ponders what is happening in Revolver. Matt goes to Metropolis and finds it grand, gets Lost In Translation with Scarlett Johansson and meets some Strangers on a Train. In the news, Arrested Devlopment might be getting big and small screen treatments. Also, box office top ten, new releases and birthdays with a special birthday themed song parody by Thom. I like sitcoms. I’ll admit it. They’re usually quite funny and often become wonderful returning shows year after year(ignoring those that go on too long). From Seinfeld to the Honeymooners, sitcoms have been a staple on TV in new content and reruns. Yet sometimes, they don’t quite deliver. Take the case of Up All Night.

It’s been weird adjusting to the new Fall TV season. I’m not just talking about new programming. Even the selected time slots for reruns have become a conflict. I’m used to two episodes of the Simpsons a night on FOX. Now, there’s only one. I have been looking to find a gap for those nights I don’t want to watch it’s replacement, the Big Bang Theory.
Matt watches The Wild Bunch and beats Thom to watching Hesher. Thom indulges in another Refn film, Valhalla Rising. Thom also watches some new TV shows, like 2 Broke Girls. Andrew is up to 388 movies, and talks about Desperado, Wet Hot American Summer, Westworld, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Also the Box Office Top Ten, New Releases, and Birthdays. The Greatest Escape

BREAKING NEWS: Matt Damon, Liam Neeson and Jason Statham are set to star in a re-make of the action and adventure classic The Great Escape. No, that is not true at all. I apologize if I got your hopes up because a re-make with those three would be epic. Imagine Damon as “The Cooler King,” Neeson as “The Scrounger” and Statham as “The Tunnel King.” That thought certainly brings a smile to my face. That is the power of cinema though, more so than literature or video games. Just the slightest notion of our favorite stars comprising characters or roles elicits instant excitement because of the performance they can bring. For me, they contain the best ability to create happiness when my mood is bleak.
